EIGHT DAYS + ONE IN CINEPHILE HEAVEN 

For all the many extraordinary people who bring this small, stubborn festival to life, making Il Cinema Ritrovato happen requires enormous effort, like climbing up a mountain against the wind (a standard condition in the battle for culture). During the weeks leading up to the festival, I observe the people who work with me without taking Saturday or Sunday off, all the volunteers who offer invaluable help by generously donating their time, and I ask myself: after thir-ty-one years, is it still worth it? I let the question sit as I browse the program and re-read the drafts of the catalog (there is no festival in the world with a catalog like ours, as noble as a book, with exquisite images and words that open our minds, just like the films they refer to), and the answer to my question is a resounding yes, it is worth it. This 31st edition upholds the profound reasons behind Il Cinema Ritrovato. Cinema is not a sociological phenomenon, like fashion trends; it is a cultural one.
