The Time Machine

Cinema has the unique ability to transport contemporary audiences through time, recreating the atmosphere, presence and truths of bygone eras. Faces, aesthetics and narrative forms from the past return to life on screen in a continuous play of proximity and distance, developing an ongoing dialogue between the audience and their contemporary point of view.

The Time Machine is, first and foremost, a powerful spotlight on silent cinema, structured around two core sections: A Hundred Years Ago continues, edition after edition and exactly one century later, its meticulous exploration of a single in the history of cinema, offering a selection of timeless classics and rare archival discoveries; Century of Cinema, meanwhile, follows a chronological path beginning with the birth of the Seventh Art in 1895, year after year, and revisits the milestones that shaped cinematic production during its formative period. Completing the programme, are the contemporary flims in the section Documents & Documentaries, a priveleged investigative space dedicated to the rediscovery of filmmakers and films that have left a lasting mark on the history of cinema.
