A new centre for preservation and restoration
Saturday, June 13 was a day of celebration open to all citizens, culminating in a special screening on the rooftop of the Renato Zangheri Archive, featuring a gem by Agnès Varda from 1991: Garage Demy.
A new centre of major European and international significance, the Archive was created through the redevelopment of the former Giuriolo Parking Facility. It will house the vast film and photographic heritage of the Cineteca, together with collections entrusted by numerous depositors, as well as the L’Immagine Ritrovata restoration laboratory. These two entities, which engage in a constant daily dialogue—preservation and restoration being the two pillars of our work—are now brought together under one roof in a state-of-the-art facility.
For ten days, leading up to Il Cinema Ritrovato festival, the Renato Zangheri Archive will remain open to the public, offering guided tours of its film and photographic archives led by Cineteca archivists.
