What does our time machine reveal with the present 2012 edition? Let’s start with a beautiful anniversary – the tenth annual presentation of One hundred years ago, now focused on 1912. That was the moment when longer, feature-length films started seriously to shatter the fascinating aleatory mixtures of short films. As an admirer of Mariann Lewinsky’s programming, I want to point out how elegantly this difficult equation has been conceived – once she located 96 films to express the essence of a single year. We are still in the period when the multitude, not canonized masterpieces, counted. Everything was breathing.
