20th EDITION

IL CINEMA RITROVATO 2006

20th EDITION

This year marks the 20th edition of Il Cinema Ritrovato, a festival once again dedicated to an array of unknown, little-known, rediscovered and restored films, gathering in a single week several of the most up-to-date international restorations from some of the world’s most creative archives. Once again we wish to provide a fertile ground for discussion among eminent film historians, specialists, and archivists, as well as showcasing the most advanced restoration techniques. This means a collection of rediscoveries of themes, protagonists, and territories of 20thcentury cinema believed to be lost. Nowadays we have too many chances to lose cinema in its truest sense; most people sadly may never see a “classic” film in their lifetime in its original form. So we also mean “recovered” in the sense that cinema must be refound, hoping to kindle – most notably in the special evening screenings in the Piazza Maggiore – the electricity of the local public, bringing them together with our international “clientele”, probably the best informed on earth.
