“Nikolas Rimsky (1886-1941), a quite powerful stage writer, had worked only rarely with Russian cinema, starting this experience only in 1916, when Josef Ermoliev asked him to interpret a film from a drama by Ostrovskij, Sinners without blame; later he participated in other films, such as Andrei Kosciusko (1917), where he played alongside Mosjoukine. When Ermoliev decided to move his activities to Crimea and afterward to Paris, Rimsky joined the exiles and shortly after that in Montreuil’s studios he became a sort of Mosjoukine’s alter-ego, for he could adapt his facial expression to endless facets, often playing the antagonist of his more famous colleague”.
