Film notes
In 1954, Marilyn Monroe, Hollywood’s icon in the making, travelled to Korea to entertain the American troopsand discovered her true artistic identity, whilst her journey revealed the unknown challenges of a war that shaped our contemporary world. When she first appeared on the stage in front of more than 100,000 soldiers, she found herself looking America and Americans straight in the eye and would also come face to face with herself. We are invited into this reflective film in which we see a Marilyn who, for the first time ever, was fearless and just happy to be living these intense moments of joyful connection. Through this journey of Marilyn’s, Patrick Jeudy also shows us the fate of these boys hailing from the four corners of America, exhausted from years of fighting in a Cold War atmosphere, bearing witness to the country’s united stance behind the new President Eisenhower, to whom this liberated blonde would bring her patriotic energy and nascent legendary status; a star is born. Patrich Jeudy had already made films about Marilyn’s life: Marilyn malgré elle, 2002 and Marilyn, dernières séances, 2008, and he completes his Monroe trilogy with this film.
