28th EDITION
28th EDITION
The element of the unexpected hopefully crosses all the programs. As always, history is a dominant theme, this time with a special force because our fabulous 100 years ago program (now already in its 11th edition) focuses on the outbreak of the Great War. Instead of a collection of films made literally in 1914, this time it’s intentionally a meditation about films that have relevance to the theme as well as some very small films that will surprise us as great revelations as well as masterpieces. And if I may dare guess what is the greatest of the WWI views, I’ll propose Alfred Machin’s masterpiece Maudite soit la guerre – from 1914! That is the paradox of cinema for us.
