Il cinema ritrovato is not only about preservation. It is also about presentation in human terms, based on a need to make the life of a film palpable (just remember the last lines and the sudden declaration of love in Pickpocket “…Oh Jeanne, what a strange road I had to take to find you…”). The ever elusive ideal is that each film – always an individual – causes strange, unexpected formations in others, and is shown in a way that makes us remember it as unique and worth caring for.
