Tin Salvage aimed to persuade audiences to help defeat Japan – then in control of most of the world’s tin supplies – by returning their used toothpaste tubes to collection points. “Take back and hit back”: that is the slogan, accompanied by a hand crushing a crudely stereotyped Japanese head affixed to a model spider advancing across a map towards Britain.
