In the mid 70’s, some reels of an Italian film were found in a projection booth in the New York’s Bronx. The film arrived at the MoMA and was identified as Tenacia Abruzzese. Since the print still has the Italian intertitles, it was probably meant for an Italian audience of immigrants. Unfortunately the film is incomplete and various parts were not correctly edited, so the story is hardly understandable. Thanks of the MoMA’s cooperation, we attempted a reconstruction of the film. At this stage, it is nothing but an attempt to make the film understandable; as you will see, the first reel is a fragment, and its structure is still a puzzle, while the other two reels’ structure (2 and 3) seem to be rather clear. The fourth and final reel is completely missing. The film is a minor production, but has several points: it seems to have been produced for the immigrants; unusually, it deals with Fascism: an Italian emigrant returns and sees the “new Italy”, further, the “heroes” are two Fascist giants.
