Film notes

Weber’s inspired re-thinking of the ‘last-minute rescue’ scenario so associated with D.W. Griffith, Suspense remains one of most stylistically outré films of the transitional era, according to historian Charlie Keil. The film showcases the work of cinematographer Dal Clawson, a founding member of the American Society of Cinematographers famed for his ability to achieve special effects. One of Weber’s favorite collaborators, Dawson continued to work with the director throughout her career, following her to Bosworth, then back to Universal and onto Lois Weber Productions.
