An advertisement for the Post Office’s Savings Bank scheme. But that only becomes apparent at the end. Before that Lye takes us on a hypnotic dance tour of abstract patterns, stylised echoes of the British suburban landscapes, and live-action footage of a dancing man in silhouette (Rupert Doone, a leading figure in London’s theatrical avant-garde). In Lye’s version of 1930s Britain, the exuberance and the rainbow colours never end.
