PAOLO E VITTORIO TAVIANI: GOOD MORNING CINEMA

Cast and Credits

DCP.

Film notes

In this previously unseen documentary, made when shooting on Good Morning Babylonia was almost over, the Taviani brothers are interviewed ‘under a tree’ (a familiar format in Bachmann’s interviews, most famously in the interview with Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom). As a consequence of the type of film and the verve of Bachmann’s questions, the discussion immediately becomes a great debate on the cinema and its artistic and artisan nature. “For us, Romanesque cathedrals and the cinema are the same”, Vittorio Taviani says, remembering the deep, ancestral bond that exists between their land and their cinematic expression, between things both ancient, noble and layered and the need for living stories that originate with the public and celebrate collective participation.
