Film notes

The story of the melancholy clown with a tragic past is a well-known subject, and Klovnen was to become Psilander’s final success, even if it wasn’t released until just after his death. The sentimental story of the clown who slowly turns from being a happy, charming entertainer into a sad and broken-hearted man, allows Psilander to create a character with great depth and display the more subtle- ties of his acting talent. A.W. Sandberg who became the leading director at Nordisk Films throughout the 1920s remade Klovnen in 1925 with the Swedish actor Gösta Ekman in the title role.
