The film tells the story of the love between a painter and a marquise tortured by a treacherous husband. A young model, whom the painter had helped when she was in difficulty, sacrifices herself for them. The marquise is believed to be dead and the lovers are able to run away together. Years later, the marquis finds his wife and wants her to return to him. The painter intervenes and the two fight until the situation takes a turn in favor of the painter due to a painting of the model-martyr.
