I due macchinisti is another example of that “realistic” genre Cines seemed to like. In this case the “milieu” of the story is evidently zolian: a railway engineer hates a colleague because of his success and familiar happiness. The Cines “sadistic” touch, again, is present: as in the scene when the rival breaks Novelli’s legs under his locomotive’s wheels.
