Film notes

1909 is the last year that the short format is dominant in Danish film- production. Already in 1910 the Nordisk Film Company, with Ole Olsen at the lead, embraced the feature film format with great financial success. The selection of films gives a good impression of the short fictional formats at the time, with both moral tales and comedies. In the years 1908 to 1916 Nordisk produced approximately 2 short films per week in its film studios in Valby, west of Copenhagen. As the company entered the feature era production reached its climax in 1916, where one feature film was produced every week along with two short subjects. Many upstart film companies tried to imitate Nordisk’s success, however most with little financial success.
