A FEW MOMENTS WITH EDDIE CANTOR

Cast and Credits

P.: De Forest Phonofilm. 35mm.

Film notes

This is a rare example of the many shorts produced by Lee De Forest with the company with which he tried in vain to establish his Phonofilm sound system. It’s probably the first recording of the voice of Eddie Cantor, as well. Already in the early 1920’s, the Phonofilm system was based on an optical sound recording, but synchronization problems and lack of quality in the sound reproduction kept it from becoming popular. DeForest’s patent then passed from one person to another until eventually joining the great universal ocean of sound-on-film.
