Smycket is an episode in the eight-part omnibus film Stimulantia, and is the only fictional film in the Ingrid Bergman rarities programme. The Molander episode, based on a short story by Guy de Maupassant, is by far the best of the eight, and the performances of Ingrid Bergman and Gunnar Björnstrand as the struggling couple are among the finest of their respective careers. The first film in Sweden since she left for Hollywood more than a quarter of a century earlier saw Ingrid Bergman re-unite with director Gustaf Molander, who directed her in six films between 1935 and 1939. Smycket was to be Molander’s last film.
