THE ADVENTURES OF PINOCCHIO

Two hundred years after the birth of Carlo Collodi, Il Cinema Ritrovato Kids pays homage to the most famous of his creations, Pinocchio, the protagonist of one of the most successful children’s books ever, translated into 190 languages and adapted countless times for cinema and TV. Amongst these, the one that has undoubtedly left the deepest mark on the Italian imagination is the fivepart mini-series that Luigi Comencini directed for Rai in 1972. Collodi had conceived of the story as a caricature of late-nineteenth century society, a “fable of hunger” that Comencini recreated with remarkable fidelity, perfectly integrating the realism of the mise-en-scene with the fantastical tone of the tale. Daily screening with Comencini’s Pinocchio will be accompanied by an inaugural event, with readings by Daniele Fior and Francesco Catalucci, and a puppet exhibition/workshop curated by Riccardo Pazzaglia.
