The five films selected here – classics of Polish animation – invite us to travel back and forth through time. Witold Giersz’s Tajemnica starego zamku echoes classic Disney animation while drawing on Sherlock Holmes motifs. A similarly mischievous suspense runs through Nieustraszeni pogromcy duchow, while Dyliżans – both from the cult series Two Cats and One Dog – reminds us that clashes of personality and absurd comedy remain timeless. Podróże w czasie – w krainie dinozaurów revives the childhood fantasy of stepping into the television screen, only to awaken relieved it was just a dream. The animated miniature Zabawka is a pure celebration of abstraction, equally accessible to children and adults. Each film opens up its own journey – historical, sentimental, intellectual – with echoes of Sherlock Holmes, Koko’s Earth Control 457 Tom and Jerry, Scooby-Doo. Absurdity meets slapstick, memories trigger new associations, and imagination runs at full speed.
All the films have been digitally restored by WFDiF – Wytwórnia Filmów Dokumentalnych i Fabularnych. Magdalena Nowak-Gniadek
