Director, author and playwright Cristina Comencini will introduce\u00a0<em>Incompreso<\/em>, one of the symbols of her father Luigi\u2019s ability to direct children and recount childhood. The film will be accompanied by a video from an unexpected fan, Isabelle Huppert. From the intimate humanity of Comencini (whose investigative report for television\u00a0<em>I bambini e noi<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em>we are also screening) to the fanciful exaggerations from the imagination of director Terry Gilliam: the ex-member of Monty Python will hold an unmissable Cinema Lesson, where he will discuss the epic adventures of his Don Quixotesque cinema. However, it is not only directors who make cinema history: Angela Allen, the famous script supervisor, worked with directors of the calibre of Ken Russell, Roman Polanski, John Frankenheimer, Franco Zeffirelli and John Huston. She will reconstruct for us the eventful production of the Huston classic\u00a0<em>The African Queen<\/em>, as well as present a teaser for the documentary \u2013 still a work in progress \u2013 that David Thompson is making about her extraordinary life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cinema Europa<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 8.30pm and 10.15pm | \u00a0<strong>Cinema Arlecchino<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 9.30pm | \u00a0<strong>Piazza Maggiore<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 9.45pm |\u00a0<strong>Piazzetta Pasolini\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 10pm<br \/>\n<strong>Joker, Jerry and the others\u2026<\/strong><br \/>\nRoom for comedy at Il Cinema Ritrovato. Beginning with the book of the day,\u00a0<em>Joker scatenato. Il lato oscuro della comicit\u00e0<\/em>\u00a0(Feltrinelli, 2025), presented by author Guido Vitiello and Emiliano Morreale. The volume tells the story of our time through comedy. A cynical and sarcastic sense of humour has taken over public discourse today. Guided by the emblematic figure of the Joker, Vitiello investigates \u201cthe dark side of farce\u201d and the inescapable link between comedy and violence. A more light-hearted sort of laughter with Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant in the Howard Hawks\u2019 screwball comedy\u00a0<em>Bringing Up Baby<\/em>\u00a0and the irresistible duo of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin in the caramelised Technicolor of\u00a0<em>Artists and Models<\/em>. Gregory Monro will also present\u00a0<em>Chaplin et les Temps Modernes, la voie du silence<\/em>, his documentary which recounts how Charlie Chaplin, the genius of silent comedy, adapted to sound.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cinema Arlecchino\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 11.15am\u00a0|\u00a0<strong>Auditorium &#8211; DAMSLab\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 2.30pm\u00a0|\u00a0<strong>Piazzetta Pasolini\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 7pm | <strong>Cinema Modernissimo<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u2013 10pm<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=1&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=0&amp;qday=20250625,&amp;qplace=0&amp;qtime=21-24,\"><strong>How about an evening at the pictures?<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe evening at Il Cinema Ritrovato holds some unique moments in store for us, starting with the double bill scheduled for Piazza Maggiore: the screening of\u00a0<em>Five Easy Pieces\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 a films that symbolised New Hollywood, starring the eternally experimental Jack Nicholson \u2013 will be preceded by\u00a0<em>The Three Bears<\/em>, an animated adaptation of the celebrated fairy tale.\u00a0In Piazzetta Pier Pasolini, the screening of\u00a0<em>\u2019<\/em><em>A santanotte\u00a0<\/em>will<em>\u00a0<\/em>be enriched by live musical accompaniment, recreating the viewing experience of spectators of silent cinema. The possibilities don\u2019t end there, however, because the evening of Wednesday 25 June will also feature the underground cult classic\u00a0<em>Pink Narcissus<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 which will be at the centre of a\u00a0restoration meeting\u00a0on Thursday 26 June \u2013, the hyper-realist post-punk thriller\u00a0<em>Diva<\/em>, the anti-capitalist musical<em>\u00a0Hallelujah, I\u2019m a Bum\u00a0<\/em>and,<em>\u00a0<\/em>finally,\u00a0<em>Caf\u00e9 Flesh<\/em>, a surprising fresco on the production mechanisms of pornography.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sala Mastroianni\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 2.30pm, 6.30pm and 7.15pm<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=1&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=0&amp;qday=20250625,&amp;qplace=603,&amp;qtime=12-15,18-21,\"><strong><em>Century of Cinema: 1905<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Albert Samama Chikli<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\n<em>Between Light and Dark<\/em>, from the cinema of 120 years ago. Films exhale the air of their time and help us to understand the era in which they were made: like the French ones made during the period of political conflict that preceded the law on the separation of Church and State, or the comedies that reinforced widespread stereotypes through ridicule. They can also give rise to highly contradictory representations: such as those of reactionary America and modern America, as portrayed by Edwin S. Porter. Staying in the same year at the start of the last century, but allowing ourselves to be transported to Tunis, on the trail of the Cin\u00e9mato-Chikli screenings, which were organised by Albert Samama Chikli, the pioneer of Tunisian cinema, a brilliant filmmaker, photographer, technophile and inventor, to whom a dense and fascinating programme of restorations is also dedicated.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sala Scorsese<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 6.20pm<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/proiezione\/maskerade\/\"><strong>Masks and Music: the films of Willi Forst<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe once celebrated career of Willi Forst has today fallen almost into oblivion. The Austrian director who allowed music to play a central role in his productions was one of the few filmmakers active in 1930s Germany to keep his work free from any obvious contamination by National Socialist ideology. The section dedicated to him opens with\u00a0<em>Maskerade<\/em>, his second work and the one that best testifies to his spirit and style. The high watermark of that most typically Austrian cinema genre \u2013 the so-called \u201cViennese film\u201d \u2013 it is an irresistible romantic intrigue, enhanced by highly-controlled performances and the elegant photography of Franz Planer, who later collaborated with Max Oph\u00fcls and Nicholas Ray.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=1&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=81093&amp;qday=20250625,&amp;qplace=63834,44417,130,604,605,607,1368,&amp;qtime=9-12,12-15,15-18,18-21,\"><strong>Recovered and Restored<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThere are 125 of them over the nine days of the festival, but we can never get enough. Naturally, they are the films of the\u00a0<em>Recovered and Restored\u00a0<\/em>section<em>.\u00a0<\/em>From Bertrand Tavernier\u2019s directorial debut\u00a0<em>L\u2019Horloger de Saint-Paul<\/em>, based on a novel by Georges Simenon, to the wholly original\u00a0<em>Esterina<\/em>, Carlo Lizzani\u2019s road movie about a changing Italy in the late 1950s. From the shorts made between 1931 and 1945 by the extraordinary experimental filmmakers Franciszka and Stefan Themerson to\u00a0<em>Do\u00f1a Herlinda y su hijo<\/em>, the first gay Mexican film to gain international recognition. From\u00a0<em>Sterne<\/em>, one of the most important anti-fascist films by DEFA, which deals with the guilt and responsibility of the Germans in the Holocaust, to\u00a0<em>Die Rose von Stambul<\/em>, an adaptation of the famous Viennese operetta by Leo Fall. There are also lots of big names to introduce the screenings: Thierry Fr\u00e9meaux, Steve Della Casa, Bruno Mestdagh, Daniel Bird, Herv\u00e9 Pichard, Sawako Ogawa and Ivan Trujillo.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sala Scorsese<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 9.15am and 2.15pm<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=1&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=81133&amp;qday=20250625,&amp;qplace=0&amp;qtime=0\"><strong>Into the fog of\u00a0<em>Norden noir<\/em><\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nOur journey into the fog and disquiet of\u00a0<em>Norden noir\u00a0<\/em>continues with two appointments that explore the points of contacts between Nordic noir and Hollywood noir.\u00a0<em>D\u00f8den er et kj\u00e6rtegn<\/em>\u00a0represents a triple debut: not only was it Edith Carlmar\u2019s directorial debut, it is also considered the first Norwegian noir and, above all, it was the first film shot in Norway to be directed by a woman.
