It means going from the devastated Los Angeles of\u00a0<em>Killer of Sheep<\/em>, a fictional portrait of a working class African-American family (also the focus of a restoration meeting on Tuesday 24 June), to the 17th-century China of\u00a0<em>The Arch<\/em>, the debut work by Shu Shuen Tang, the first Hong Kongese director to gain international recognition. Then a trip around Europe, from the Germany of the family saga\u00a0<em>Die<\/em>\u00a0<em>Buddenbrooks<\/em>\u00a0to the Nazi-occupied France \u2013 entirely reconstructed in Hollywood \u2013 of\u00a0<em>Till We Meet Again<\/em>, and to the rice fields of Vercelli in\u00a0<em>Riso amaro<\/em>. Pratello Pop also takes us back to Italy: to the Seventies of the disconcerting\u00a0<em>\u2026hanno cambiato faccia<\/em>\u00a0and \u201ccarosello\u201d advertisements for Crodino, and to the exaggerated Eighties of the cult\u00a0<em>Arrapaho<\/em>, \u201cthe ugliest film in the history of Italian cinema\u201d, introduced by director Ciro Ippolito.<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nAuditorium DAMSLab<\/strong>\u00a0\u20132.30pm, 4.15pm and 6.15pm<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=0&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=81128&amp;qday=20250623,&amp;qplace=63834,&amp;qtime=0\"><strong>Documents and Documentaries<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nThe day\u2019s documentaries shine a spotlight on the history of cinema. It gets underway with\u00a0<em>Franco &amp; Hollywood<\/em>, which explores how Francoist Spain used Hollywood to gain international credibility, followed by the stories of two cinema theatres that changed the destinies of their audiences:\u00a0<em>Le Muran\u00f3w de Varsovie<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>The New Yorker Theater: A Talbot Legacy<\/em>. Alongside documentaries about cinema, we also have a programme of little gems, which includes\u00a0<em>Il pianto delle zitelle<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 considered the first example of neorealist cinema by Antonioni \u2013 and\u00a0<em>Le Retour<\/em>, which tells the story of the difficult journey home of French prisoners freed from concentration camps in 1945.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cinema Modernissimo\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013\u00a06pm<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/proiezione\/lumiere-laventure-continue\/\">Thierry Fr\u00e9maux presents\u00a0<em>Lumi\u00e8re, l\u2019aventure continue!<\/em><\/a><br \/>\nCannes&#8217; director will be the protagonist of a cinema lesson on Tuesday 24<\/strong><br \/>\nThierry Fr\u00e9maux returns to the origins of cinema with a new film about the inventors of the\u00a0<em>cin\u00e9matographe<\/em>,<em>\u00a0Lumi\u00e8re, l\u2019aventure continue!<\/em>, which he will introduce at Cinema Modernissimo. \u201cIt is a world that comes to life in front of the first spectators, a world in which everything is worthy of being shot\u201d (Paolo Mereghetti). The celebrated director of the Cannes Film Festival will also be the guest at an unmissable\u00a0Cinema Lesson\u00a0on Tuesday 24 June, in conversation with Gian Luca Farinelli.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Auditorium DAMSLab<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 12pm<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/evento\/benshi-bonimenteur-barker-larte-dellincantatore\/\"><strong>The raconteur, or the art of\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>boniment<\/strong><\/em><\/a><br \/>\nFasten your seatbelt in the time machine, because this year Il Cinema Ritrovato is taking us on a journey to discover a figure about whom very little is known today, but who was characteristic of early cinema: the raconteur. Somewhere between a storyteller and a lecturer, they helped to bring scenes to life and elucidate certain fragments or stories that were unclear in the absence of words. Spectators at the festival will be able to travel back a century in time and experience the magic of the past thanks to Julie Linquette, a professional raconteur who, in addition to accompanying some of the screenings of the\u00a0<em>1905\u00a0<\/em>section, will be the protagonist of an essential Cinema Lesson at Auditorium DAMSLab, in conversation with \u00c9milie Cauquy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piazzetta Pasolini\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 7pm<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/evento\/presentazione-la-cinefilia-invenzione-di-uno-sguardo-storia-di-una-cultura-1944-68\/\"><strong>Not just books&#8230; under the stars:<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>La cinefilia. Invenzione di uno sguardo, storia di una cultura 1944-68<\/strong><\/em><\/a><br \/>\nIl Cinema Ritrovato is more than films! Alongside the screenings and meetings with filmmakers, the festival reserves space for the most interesting publications about cinema: in the evocative setting of Piazzetta Pasolini, Antoine de Baeque\u2019s\u00a0<em>La cinefilia. Invenzione di uno sguardo, storia di una cultura 1944-68\u00a0<\/em>(CUE Press, 2025)<em>\u00a0<\/em>will be presented by Roy Menarini and Emiliano Morreale, who also curated the volume. The book paints portraits of the French nouvelle vague directors who, from the Liberation until 1968, cultivated a passion for cinema in Paris, founding magazines and film clubs, promoting discussion and, at times, arguing. The author of this heart-felt reconstruction, Antoine de Baeque, is a cinema critic and historian, and was the director of \u201cCahiers du cinema\u201d.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-GB\"><strong>Sala Mastroianni<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 9am, 11.15am and 6.30pm<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=1&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=0&amp;qday=20250623,&amp;qplace=603,&amp;qtime=0\"><strong>Mutiflix:\u00a0<\/strong><em><strong>Les Mis\u00e9rables<\/strong><\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>and other films from\u00a0<em>A<\/em><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><strong>Hundred Years Ago<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nAn unmissable event for all serial addicts at the festival: from Monday 23 (until Thursday 26), Sala Mastroianni will open its daily programme with one of the four episodes of Henri Fescourt\u2019s monumental 1925-26 adaptation of Victor Hugo\u2019s\u00a0<em>Les<\/em>\u00a0<em>Mis\u00e9rables<\/em>\u00a0(all with live musical accompaniment from Neil Brand on piano). However, this is but the first of our\u00a0<em>A Hundred Years Ago<\/em>\u00a0appointments kicking off the week: there are also films by Walther Ruttmann and Viking Eggeling, originally presented at the legendary Berlin matin\u00e9e \u201cDer absolute Film\u201d; there is\u00a0<em>Le Voyage imaginaire<\/em>, a surreal comedy in which \u2013 as Michel Gondry writes in our catalogue \u2013 \u201cthe narration is geometric, modern and clever, foreshadowing the virtuoso and innovative director Ren\u00e9 Clair was to become\u201d; and there is Eisenstein\u2019s masterpiece\u00a0<em>Bronenosec Pot\u00ebmkin<\/em>, with the Odessa steps sequence, which became the most famous example of editing in the history of cinema.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cinema Arlecchino, Cinema Jolly<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 9.30pm\u00a0\u00a0|\u00a0<strong>Piazza Maggiore\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 9.45pm\u00a0|\u00a0<strong>Cinema Modernissimo<\/strong>,<strong>\u00a0Piazzetta Pier Paolo Pasolini\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 10pm\u00a0|\u00a0<strong>Cinema Europa\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 10.15pm<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/programma\/?qlayout=mosaic&amp;qed=2446&amp;qprj=1&amp;qev=0&amp;qcat=0&amp;qsec=0&amp;qday=20250623,&amp;qplace=0&amp;qtime=21-24,\"><strong>Into the Night<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nAn evening for all tastes and ages. In Piazzetta Pasolini, the hands of time are going back one hundred and twenty years: we will be turning the cranck of one of the oldest surviving examples of a Stahlprojektor Imperator, a projector with arc light with which we will be screening some gems of early cinema from the Goldstaub-Fund collection. In Piazza Maggiore,\u00a0<em>One Flew Over the Cuckoo\u2019s Nest<\/em>, Milo\u0161 Forman\u2019s film of authentic rebellion starring an unforgettable Jack Nicholson, will illuminate the big screen.
