Il Cinema Ritrovato is a cinephile’s paradise – matter of fact – and the festival offers, through its programme, screenings and events – starting from restored classics (but also from archives, rediscovered films, lectures, meetings with filmmakers and experts) – that celebrate and allow the public to refine their passion for the seventh art.
\nAn arduous task in itself, we have come up with a short list of must-see films and events for any serious cinephile:<\/p>\n

\n“In the spring of 1978, Jean-Luc Godard began, at the invitation of Serge Losique, director of the Conservatory of Cinematographic Art at Concordia University in Montreal, a long term \u2018research\u2019 on the history of cinema, in turn gardener, archaeologist, geologist, producer, rarely professor. These Montreal lectures were known to cinephiles through two main sources: the book Introduction \u00e0 une v\u00e9ritable histoire du cin\u00e9ma\u00a0<\/em>published in 1980 and an English translation by Timothy Barnard, published in 2014,\u00a0Introduction to a True History of Cinema<\/em>. These \u2018lessons\u2019 were to become the fertile ground for a seminal work of the Twentieth century:\u00a0Histoire(s) du cinema\u00a0<\/em>(1987-1998). If these works are part of the library of all Godardians worthy of the name, few, until today, could claim to have seen and heard video recordings of these lessons”.<\/li>\n

\n“Sergei Eisenstein spent six frustrating months in Hollywood in 1930, during which all his projects were vetoed, despite the lavish promises that had brought the director of Battleship Potemkin\u00a0<\/em>to California. As he discovered, being world-famous cut little ice with Paramount Pictures. So what were he and his comrades Alexandrov and Tisse to do? Making a revolutionary epic in Mexico, with the freedom of sympathetic private funding, must have seemed a brilliant escape route”.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
