Yes, because the most legendary voice in the history of\u00a0 \u2018bel canto\u2019 has always lacked a body: but now, here it is. <b>One hundred years after the death <\/b>of the great Neapolitan tenor (on 2nd August 1921), the Cineteca di Bologna commemorates Enrico Caruso by presenting the restoration of <i><b>My Cousin<\/b><\/i>, the only survivor of the two films in which he appeared, at the Cinema Ritrovato festival.<\/p>\n<p>It was made in <b>1918 <\/b>and is therefore a <b>silent film<\/b>, but thanks to an <b>extraordinary effort to restore the film and synchronise it with his actual voice<\/b>, we can finally see (and hear!) Enrico Caruso sing the celebrated aria <i>Vesti la giubba <\/i>(better known as <i><b>Ridi, pagliaccio<\/b><\/i>, or <i>On with the Motley<\/i>), from Ruggero Leoncavallo\u2019s <i>Pagliacci<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The sound of silence: Enrico Caruso canta, forte e chiaro, in un film del 1918!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dyMGFux0RvM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>For the 100th anniversary of Caruso&#8217;s death<\/strong><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/my-cousin\/\"><strong>Saturday 24<\/strong><\/a>, h. 21.45, LunettArena and <a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/my-cousin-2\/\"><strong>Sunday 25<\/strong><\/a>, h. 21.30, Teatro Arena del Sole, <strong><em>My cousin<\/em><\/strong> (Mio cugino, USA\/1918, 66\u2019) by Edward Jos\u00e9.<br \/>\nLive musical accompaniment by\u00a0<strong>Daniele Furlati<\/strong> (piano), <strong>Franc\u0327ois Laurent<\/strong> (voice and mandolin) and <strong>Guido Sodo<\/strong> (chitarra).<br \/>\nFor the restoration of <em>My Cousin <\/em>five elements \u2013 preserved by MoMA \u2013 The Museum of Modern Art, BFI National Archive, Gosfil\u2019mofond and EYE Filmmuseum \u2013 were inspected, digitised and compared.
