{"id":64906,"date":"2021-07-21T09:30:54","date_gmt":"2021-07-21T07:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/?p=64906"},"modified":"2021-07-20T18:22:21","modified_gmt":"2021-07-20T16:22:21","slug":"il-cinema-ritrovato-2021-il-programma-del-21-luglio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/il-cinema-ritrovato-2021-il-programma-del-21-luglio\/","title":{"rendered":"Il Cinema Ritrovato 2021: the programme of July, 21st"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The seconda day of Il Cinema Ritrovato marks the start of our retrospective dedicated to <strong>Iwanami<\/strong>, the production house that was able to transform Japanese documentary cinema with an approach that was innovative even by international standards, as demonstrated by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/iwanami-bambini-in-classe-e-horyu-ji-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the films of Susumu Hani<\/a>,which came a few years before England\u2019s Free Cinema movement and\u00a0<em>cin\u00e9ma v\u00e9rit\u00e9<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We stay in Japan with the <strong>Tomijiro Komiya Collection<\/strong>: our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/komiya-collection-oriente-e-occidente-infine-si-incontrano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Eastern and Western<\/em><\/a> programme will transport us to the exotic atmospheres of films dedicated to foreign cultures and peoples, including a great example of a successful co-production: Japanese\u00a0<em>benshi<\/em>\u00a0Komada K\u00f4yo\u2019s 1929 re-issue of the 1911 Italian film\u00a0<em>Odissea<\/em>. Moving to China, we will see images shot from 1901 to 1904 by Auguste Fran\u00e7ois, consul, photographer and amateur ethnographer, with a camera given to him by L\u00e9on Gaumont. Finally, our attention shifts from the Far East to the Middle East, with a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/evento\/where-is-kiarostami\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cinema lesson bt Sylvie Pras and Massoumeh Lahidji<\/a>, , the curators of the exhibition\u00a0<em>Where Is Kiarostami?<\/em>\u00a0at the Centre Pompidou.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the section <em><strong>Documents and Documentaries<\/strong><\/em>, we&#8217;ll find what happens when cinema produces more cinema through the innovative and surprising use of\u00a0found footage: the two\u00a0<strong>Bill Morrison<\/strong>\u00a0films in programme,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/the-village-detective-buried-news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Village Detective: A Song Cycle<\/em>\u00a0e\u00a0<em>Buried News<\/em><\/a>, both introduced by the director, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/fascista\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Fascista<\/em><\/a>\u00a0by Nico Naldini are examples of that.\u00a0 Finally, we can enjoy the discovery of footage of <a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/eduardo-de-filippo-lezioni-di-teatro-alluniversita-sapienza-di-roma\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lesson held by Eduardo De Filippo<\/a> at The Sapienza University of Rome in the early 1980s, providing rare testimony of his collaboration with Carmelo Bene..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Elta\u0301vozott.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-62984 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/Elta\u0301vozott-300x204.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"204\" \/><\/a>As usual, Cinema Arlecchino will be the right location to find out the best of the <strong>Indian\u00a0Parallel Cinema<\/strong>, with the screening of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/uski-roti\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Uski Roti<\/em><\/a> by\u00a0Mani Kaul\u00a0(one of the films that marked the beginning of this creative and radical juncture, the first entirely experimental Indian film, that will be screened in a unique 35mm print, introduced by director Loubna R\u00e9graguiuno) and of the section\u00a0<em><strong>Cinemalibero<\/strong><\/em>, that this year is screening only debut films by female directors who have managed to &#8216;set a precedent&#8217;, making history as the first from their respective countriessuch as M\u00e1rta M\u00e9sz\u00e1ros from Hungary: we will be premiering the restored version of her\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/eltavozott-nap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Elt\u00e1vozott nap<\/em><\/a>\u00a0(we will also have a repeat showing of Margot Benacerraf\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/araya\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Araya<\/em><\/a>, the joint winner, along with<em>\u00a0Hiroshima mon amour<\/em>, of the 1959 Critics\u2019 Prize at Cannes).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cinema was also a woman in 1921. Directed by William C. deMille (brother of Cecil),\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/dream-of-rarebit-fiend-miss-lulu-bett\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Miss Lulu Bett<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>was not only based on the novel and play by Zona Gale, the first female playwright to win a Pulitzer Prize, it also benefited from the invaluable contribution of screenwriter Clara Beranger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The muse of this year\u2019s festival, Romy Schneider, will light up the evening in Piazza Maggiore and the LunettArena. In Jacques Deray\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/la-piscine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>La Piscine<\/em><\/strong><\/a> her womanly charms contrast with the adolescent whimsy of Jane Birkin (with Alain Delon completing a breathtaking trio). The film will be presented by Volker Schl\u00f6ndorff, who\u00a0will hold a lesson dedicated to Romy in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/raggi_z.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-1\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-63004\" src=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-800x533.jpg 800w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z-1600x1066.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/raggi_z.jpg 1994w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Meanwhile in Piazzetta Pasolini this year\u2019s first <a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/i-film-visti-dai-bolognesi-nel-1901-i-raggi-z-con-lanterna-a-carbone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>screening with a carbon arc projector<\/strong><\/a> will take place. It will be special for two reasons. Firstly, we can admire<em>\u00a0I raggi \u201cZ\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in a print with real tinting by Jan Ledeck\u00fd, restored by N\u00e1rodn\u00ed filmov\u00fd archiv, Museo Nazionale del Cinema di Torino and Cineteca di Bologna. It will be a longer version than the one we screened in 2009, but alas still incomplete. And secondly, we will go back in time to view some of the films that the cinemagoers of Bologna enjoyed in 1901 at the Reale Cinematografo Lumi\u00e8re in Via Rizzoli 13. Twelve selections from the Lumi\u00e8re catalogue will be screened to celebrate cinema in Bologna 120 years ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Among the restored films of this second day of festival, we&#8217;ll find masterpieces such as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/the-best-years-of-our-lives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>The Best Years of Our Lives<\/em><\/a>\u00a0by William Wyler or,\u00a0for those who missed it, a repeat showing of Jean Renoir\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/les-bas-fonds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Les Bas-fonds<\/em><\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/watermelon-man\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Watermelon Man<\/em><\/a>, a hilarious comedy by the maestro of Afro-American cinema Melvin van Peebles;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/le-sang-a-la-tete\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Le Sang \u00e0 la t\u00eate<\/em><\/a> by Gilles Grangier, based on a Georges Simenon novel, with an unprecedented role for Jean Gabin;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/film\/i-wake-up-screaming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>I Wake Up Screaming<\/em><\/a> by H. Bruce Humberstone, an essential work in the evolution of film noir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/proiezione\/e-arrivato-laccordatore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>\u00c8 arrivato l\u2019accordatore<\/em><\/a> highlights the debt we owe to Fellini, who just months later went on to transform Alberto Sordi into a respected actor. There will also be the first sessions of our\u00a0<em>Focus on Restoration<\/em>, with a double appointment in the morning at the Auditorium DAMSLab.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Change of programme<\/strong><br \/>\nOur two films dedicated to Sessue Hayakawa (<em>The Swamp\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Black Roses<\/em>), which we had planned to screen today, have switched places with &#8216;The Truth of Deception: Italian Film Fragments&#8217; programme of our\u00a0<em>Recovered and Restored<\/em>\u00a0section. This programme, originally scheduled for Monday 26th July at 10.45 am, consists of the first showing of five newly restored fragments that play at hiding things from us, including\u00a0<em>Il fenomenale amico<\/em>\u00a0<em>di Polidor<\/em>\u00a0by Ferdinand Guillaume and\u00a0<em>Emir cavallo da circo<\/em>\u00a0by Ivo Illuminati and Lucio d\u2019Ambra.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry, this entry is only available in Italiano.
