The first appointment is at noon at\u00a0Cinema Jolly<\/strong> for the\u00a0inauguration event<\/strong><\/a>, a spectacular surprise programme in the presence of four festival directors \u2013 Cecilia Cenciarelli, Mariann Lewinsky, Ehsan Khoshbakht and Gian Luca Farinelli, and to the sounds of Daniele Furlati, the first of many musicians who will enhance the atmosphere of the festival\u2019s silent film screenings, making them truly unique experiences.<\/p>\n Another important international guest of the festival\u2019s first evening is Jonathan Coe<\/strong>, the celebrated author of bestsellers such as\u00a0What a Carve Up!<\/em>,\u00a0The Rotters\u2019 Club<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0The House of Sleep<\/em>, who will present the italian versione of his new novel, Me and Mr. Wilder<\/em> at 8PM in the Cortile dell’Archiginnasio, and then will introduce the special screening of\u00a0Fedora<\/strong><\/em><\/a> by Billy Wilder, in LunettArena at 9.45 PM.<\/p>\n The\u00a0Time Machine<\/strong>\u00a0will bring us to the year 1921 with\u00a0the German social drama\u00a0Die Ratten<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(Cinema Jolly, 4.30 PM)\u00a0and Buster Keaton, starring Hard Luck <\/em>and The Electric House<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(programmed at Cinema Jolly at 6PM with the french cin\u00e9-vaudevilles Seraphine ou le jambes nues<\/em>) and even further back with the\u00a0opening programme<\/a> of the<\/strong>\u00a0Tomijiro Komiya Collection<\/strong> (Jolly again, 2.30 PM).<\/p>\n The monographic section will start to air to, dedicated to\u00a0Romy Schneider<\/strong> (Sissi<\/em><\/a> – Odeon, 3.30 PM and\u00a0The Cardinal<\/em><\/a> – Sala Scorsese, 4.45 PM), George Stevens<\/strong> (the hidden masterpiece\u00a0Something to Live For<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and the multi-award-winning\u00a0A Place in the Sun<\/em><\/a>, Cinema Arlecchino respectevely at 4.30 PM and at 9.30 PM),\u00a0Herman J. <\/a>The evening inauguration\u00a0in Piazza Maggiore<\/strong>\u00a0(9.45 PM) is going to display the restored version of Alberto Lattuada’s\u00a0Il Mulino del Po<\/strong><\/a><\/em>, based on the novel by\u00a0Riccardo Bacchelli, along with the short films\u00a0Green Porno<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>by\u00a0Isabella Rossellini<\/strong> and\u00a0Omelia contadina<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Alice Rohrwacher<\/strong> e JR<\/strong>, both of which will be introduced by the directors themselves. <\/a>Among the many restored films<\/strong> featuring on the opening day of this year\u2019s festival, two classic Italian comedies stand out:\u00a0Il federale<\/strong><\/a><\/em>\u00a0(2.30 PM, Sala Mastroianni) by Luciano Salce, \u00a0featuring Ugo Tognazzi\u2019s first important non-farcical role on celluloid, and\u00a0Dramma della gelosia<\/em><\/strong><\/a> (9.15 PM, Cinema Odeon, but it will be programmed in LunettArena on July, 27, too), the first of Ettore Scola and Marcello Mastroianni\u2019s collaborations.
