Al termine del Festival la ricca rassegna stampa offre spunti di riflessione: il paradiso dei cinefili \u00e8 fonte di attenta analisi e discussione su testate giornalistiche, social e blog. Il Cinema Ritrovato raccoglie ogni anno considerazioni, approfondimenti ed analisi dettagliate di importanti critici cinematografici da tutto il mondo.<\/p>\n

\n“The very most modern classic film festival in the world”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The festival\u2019s motto might be\u00a0Too much is never enough<\/em>. Over 500 titles now grace seven venues, if you count the Maggiore, a little piazza featuring carbon-arc projection, and an underground warren i\u2019ll tell you about shortly. The fact that the latter is still under construction didn\u2019t stop the newly established programming team from, of course, showing films there.\u00a0Those evenings you could have seen\u00a0Gilda<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Raging Bull<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Madame de\u2026<\/em>\u00a0or an Ingmar Bergman documentary or\u00a0Sacco and Vanzetti<\/em>\u00a0(1971), the last in the presence of director Giuliano Montaldo. On what may be final night (who knows?), next Sunday, the Piazza hosts a restored version of\u00a0Grease<\/em>. Did you know it needed restoration? Me neither.

“Bologna discovery: the films of John\u00a0Stahl<\/strong>“<\/p>\n

My annual visit to Bologna\u2019s Il Cinema Ritrovato festival \u2013 which specialises in rarities, restorations, forgotten fragments and other filmic arcana \u2013 usually turns up a few gems, and often provides a welcome opportunity to get better acquainted with the work of a director with whom I was hitherto barely familiar -..-My other focus of exploration was a brief retrospective dedicated to John M Stahl, with the exception of one silent film, the Cineteca Bologna selection curated by Ehsan Khoshbakht concentrated on Stahl\u2019s work in the sound era, though it omitted two of his best known films -..-\u00a0what I did manage to see persuaded me that Stahl is a fascinating filmmaker well worth devoting some time to.

“Victimas del pecado\/ Victims of sin<\/em>“<\/strong><\/p>\n

An electrifying Mexican melodrama, Emilio Fern\u00e1ndez and his cast and crew at the top of their game.
\n A passionate musical, cabaretera, rumbera. There is true abandon in the singing and dancing numbers, a special fury and uninhibited joy in the performances. A soundtrack album would be worth listening to. At least I’d like to find a soundtrack listing. Miguel Mar\u00edas in his program note singles out Pedro Vargas and P\u00e9rez Prado.
