{"id":14762,"date":"2016-06-18T17:55:50","date_gmt":"2016-06-18T15:55:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/?p=14762"},"modified":"2016-06-18T18:13:56","modified_gmt":"2016-06-18T16:13:56","slug":"dvd-awards-i-finalisti-parte-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/en\/dvd-awards-i-finalisti-parte-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Il Cinema Ritrovato DVD Awards: the finalists (Part II)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<p><!--\n\t\t@page { margin: 2cm }\n\t\tP { margin-bottom: 0.21cm }\n\t--><\/p>\n<p>From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinemateca.pt\/\">Cinemateca Portuguesa<\/a> arrives for the first time the restored version of <i><b>Jornal Portugu<\/b><\/i><i><b>\u00ea<\/b><\/i><i><b>s: <a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/BOX0011-1.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-7\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-14764 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/BOX0011-1.jpg\" alt=\"BOX0011-(1)\" width=\"136\" height=\"170\" \/><\/a>Revista Mensa<\/b><\/i><i><b>l<\/b><\/i><i><b> de Actualidades<\/b><\/i><i>,<\/i> the newsreels realized under the supervision of Ant\u00f3nio Lopes Ribeiro for the <i>Secretariado da Propaganda Nacional<\/i>, during the authoritarian regime of the Estado Novo.<!--more--> The edition \u2013 almost complete (two of the newsreels are lost) \u2013 comprises 16 hours of filming, with the original sound restored, and more than one hour of unpublished material: a total of five DVDs retracing the period from february 1938 until 1951. This edition, besides being a precious testimony of the history of propaganda in the Estado Novo, is the first of a series of DVD publications curated by the Cinemateca Portuguesa.<\/p>\n<p>The work of the great director of the Taiwanese New Wave, Hou Hsiao-hsien, will be presented in a <a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/cinematek.jpeg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-8\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14766 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/cinematek-224x300.jpeg\" alt=\"cinematek\" width=\"122\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cinematek-224x300.jpeg 224w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/cinematek.jpeg 270w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 122px) 100vw, 122px\" \/><\/a>restored version on DVD by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinematek.be\/\">Cinematek<\/a> of Bruxelles in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.film-foundation.org\/world-cinema\">Film Foundation (World Cinema Project)<\/a>. The box set <i><b>Hou Hsiao-hsien. Early works<\/b><\/i> includes three DVDs containing the first works of the Taiwanese director: <i>Cute girl<\/i> (1980),<i> The Green, Green grass of Home<\/i> (1982) and <i>The Boys from<\/i><i> Feng Kuei<\/i> (1983). <i>The Boys from<\/i><i> Feng Kuei<\/i> is considered a turning point thanks to its recognisable contemplative style that influenced an entire generation of filmmakers. Each one of the films is accompaneed by a short audiovisual essay of Cristina \u00c1lvarez L\u00f3pez and Adrian Martin and a booklet about his first films.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/miklos.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-9\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14770 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/miklos-223x300.jpg\" alt=\"miklos\" width=\"131\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinematheque.fr\/\">Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que Fran\u00e7aise<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clavisfilms.com\/v3\/clavis_index.php\">Clavis Films<\/a> present a rich collection of ten feature films by the Ungarian director Mikl\u00f3s Jancs\u00f3, realised between 1963 and 1987. Moreover, the DVD box set <i><b>M<\/b><\/i><i><b>ikl\u00f3s Jancs\u00f3<\/b><\/i><i><b> Collection<\/b><\/i> includes a great amount of extras, among which are a booklet on the work of the Ungarian director and his many collaborators \u2013 <i>Jancs<\/i><i>\u00f3<\/i><i> par lui m<\/i><i>\u00ea<\/i><i>me (et par ses amis<\/i>)) \u2013, six previously unpublished short films, a documentary on Mikl\u00f3s Jancs\u00f3 realised by Jean-Luis Comolli (<i>Cin\u00e9astes de notre temps:Mikl<\/i><i>\u00f3<\/i><i>s Jancs<\/i><i>\u00f3<\/i>),<i> <\/i>i <i>making of <\/i>dei film <i>Scirocco d&#8217;inverno<\/i> e <i>Rosso e bianco<\/i>, a documentary on the censorship in the Soviet Union against the film\u00a0 del film <em>Red And White<\/em> by Iv\u00e1n Forg\u00e1ch (<i>Une coproduction hungaro-sovi\u00e9tique<\/i>),<i> <\/i>interviews with the director of photography J\u00e1nos Kende, the scenographer Tam\u00e1s Banovich, Martin Scorsese and many others.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/dont-look-back.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-10\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14775 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/dont-look-back-213x300.jpg\" alt=\"dont look back\" width=\"123\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/dont-look-back-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/dont-look-back.jpg 348w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 123px) 100vw, 123px\" \/><\/a>This year two Blu-ray editions by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.criterion.com\/\">Criterion Collection<\/a>, <i><b>Don&#8217;t look back<\/b><\/i> (USA, 1967) by D. A. Pennebaker and <i><b>The Apu Trilogy<\/b><\/i><i> <\/i>(India, 1955-1959) by Satyajit Ray, have been selected among the finalists. The first one is a hommage to the career of the guitarist Bob Dylan, filmed in this legendary documentary during his last tour in England in 1965. This edition contains a 4K restore version of the film with sounds originally recorded on magnetic tape, interviews with Bob Dylan, as well as with the director Pennebaker and with Patti Smith, conversations with music critics, the audio of Dylan&#8217;s songs that aren&#8217;t included in the film, a booklet with an essay by the poet and critic Robert Polito.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/apu-trilogy.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-11\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14776 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/apu-trilogy-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"apu trilogy\" width=\"133\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/apu-trilogy-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/apu-trilogy.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 133px) 100vw, 133px\" \/><\/a>20 years after the great fire in the restoration laboratories in London, when everyone thought that the original negatives of <i>The Apu Trilogy<\/i> by Satyajit Ray were permanently lost, with the aid of the <i>Academy Film Archive<\/i> and the accurate 4K restoration made by the Criterion Collection together with the laboratory <a href=\"http:\/\/www.immagineritrovata.it\/it\/\">L&#8217;Immagine Ritrovata<\/a> in Bologna, the masterpieces of the great indian director are brought back on the screen. The Blu-rays in the box set are three and they includes, other than the films of the trilogy, <i>Pather Panchali<\/i> (1955), <i>Aparajito<\/i> (1956) and <i>Apur Sansar<\/i> (1959), a large numbern of extras: interviews with the actors, audio recordings, the documentary about the director <i>The Creative Person: Satyajit Ray<\/i>, the making of the trilogy<i>,<\/i> a booklet with critical essays and a selection of storyboarda by Pather Panchali.<i> <\/i>The trilogy by Satyajit Ray is part of the golden age of Indian art cinema and it represents one of its greatest exemples on an international scale.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/filmmuseum.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-12\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14777 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/filmmuseum.jpg\" alt=\"filmmuseum\" width=\"125\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmmuseum.at\/\">Filmmuseum<\/a> published two DVDs collections on two important topics of German history in the XX century. <i><b>Der Brief &amp; Obrigkeitsfilm<\/b><\/i> presents the discovery of one of the most radical artists and directors in West Germany, Vlado Kristl. The work of this artist of Croatian origins occupied a central position in the ex-Yugoslav avanguard mouvement and it had a great influence on the New German cinema of the 60s and the 70s. The DVDs included in the box set, curated by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.muenchner-stadtmuseum.de\/sammlungen\/filmmuseum.html\">Filmmuseum M\u00fcnchen<\/a> together with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goethe.de\/de\/index.html\">Goethe-Institut<\/a>, comprise the feature film <i>Der Brief (<\/i>1965) and a film produced by the director himself, <i>Obrigkeitsfilm<\/i> (1971), ad well as some short films realized in Germany, a long interview with Vlado Kristl, notes, drawings, digital documents and a 20 page booklet.<\/p>\n<p>An epochal event for German history and for the Twentieth century, such as the building of the Belrin Wall, is represented in the films of two renowned directors, Frank Vogel and Gerhard Klein. The films <i><b>&#8230; und deine Liebe auch<\/b><\/i><i> <\/i>and<i> <\/i><i><b>Sonntagsfahrer<\/b><\/i>, filmed in 1962 and in 1963, were produced by DEFA, a production company from East Germany that, together with the Goethe Institut and the Filmmuseum M\u00fcnchen, worked on this DVD edition. In the box set are also included, besides the already mentioned films: a documentary of the the summer of 1961, the films <i>Schaut auf diese Stadt<\/i> (1962), <i>Materna<\/i> (1967), <i>Der gro\u00dfe und der kleine Willi<\/i> (1967) and a booklet with essays written by Ralf Schenk and Stefan Dr\u00f6ssler.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/hitch.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-13\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-14779 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/ilcinemaritrovato.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2016\/06\/hitch-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"hitch\" width=\"111\" height=\"155\" \/><\/a>To conclude the list, the ultimate edition, restored and remastered by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elephantfilms.com\/\">Elephant Films<\/a> and <strong>Elys\u00e9es Editions<\/strong> of the cult series by the master of suspanse: 32 episodes unpublished in France collected in <i><b>Alfred Hitchcock Pr\u00e9sente. Les in\u00e9dits\/Int\u00e9grale Saison 1<\/b><\/i> (USA, 1962). This edition includes two DVDs box sets, each one containing 17 episodes, with two hours of additional contents and extras, among which are a commentary of the film critic Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Rauger, a photographic gallery, trailera and two booklets.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry, this entry is only available in Italiano.
