Film Notes
There are still déscussion about the identification of this film, dand the projection will be on opportunity to decide if it is Vers la lumière or Protazanov’s Fresque inachevée.
“Vers la lumière is another Russian film produced in France, this time with the participation of V. Yanova and V. Strijevsky. For this film we could repeat many of the remarks already made for other Russian films produced in France by Mosjoukine, Lissenko, Rimsky, Svoboda, and many others. The subject is not new. This is a remake of a movie made in 1916 in Russia by Khanjonkov’s studio, with the title of Night’s Wings, directed by Uralsky and with Strijevsky. The leading actress was Zoia Karabanova, but Varvara Yanova is much better in this role, and even Strijevsky is today much more interesting than he was at the start of his acting career”.

“We would like to thank Marianne Hietbrink from NFM who has sent us the cassette of the film, and in particular Svetlana Skovorodnikova from Gosfilmofond who has identified it”.
