Tonka Sibeniceis credited as first Czech sound film. although it was made in Paris studios. lt is directed by Karel Anton. a Czech director who later moved to Paris and Berlin, where he directed many films under the name of Karl Anton. The film has unexpected values, being inspired by the German Expressionism and directed with great skill by Anton who tells the story of the dissolution of a girl in a very clever and moving way, creating unforgettable scenes, as the central one, when the girl spend the night with a condemned to death, in jail. The acting is also impressive, the two main roles being played by two great actors, Ita Rina (the girl, who was already in Machaty’s Erotikon) and Josef Rovensky, probably the best Czech actor, who later became a director and made many interesting films, including Reka, the first sound film actually made in Czechoslovakia.
