The family decided to take a few days vacation together on Vignole, a small fisherman’s island off the coast of Venice. I brought an 8mm camera with me, the same one my father used to use, with the sense that life runs through our fingers, image after image. […] What is a home movie? A piece of life wrenched from death? How long will they remember us? Years later, what strong and terrible emotions will erupt from the silent images of these people whose destiny, to which they were oblivious at that time, we now know? Have the unfathomable smiles of these children perhaps not gone through three generations as prisoners of vague and remote anecdotes?
