Film Notes

At first sight this may seem a conventional documentary on activities pertaining to food supplies in a big city. However, soon we realise that the director’s look is much more ambitious, as he searches for the transformation of natural produce into food with an outlook aiming at unveiling reality and its working. Oxen blood, the lined-up legs of calves, abstract shapes of pasta, the tired faces of farmers carting greens in sunny and dusty squares in an Italian town, up to the final crescendo on mouths (old and young mouths, children’s and women’s alike) devouring an endless meal originated in the countryside.
