Film Notes

This is the oldest preserved film shot on the territory of Yugoslavia (Serbia). In June 1903 (29th May dated at this time, as in Serbia was still valid the old Julian Calendar) in Belgrade was killed the King Alexander Obrenovich with his wife Draga and it was at the same time the change of the dynasty. The new dynasty Karadjordevich came on the throne and it was the new King Peter 1st Karadjordevich who was coronated in September 1904 (one year after the coup d’etat).
Among the guests was the eminent lawyer from Sheffield, and he was at the same time the Honorary Consul of Serbia, Mr. Arnold Muir Willson. Beside his basic profession, he was traveller, journalist, photographer. He hired the cameraman Frank Storm Mottershaw of Sheffield Photo Company, and they came together and realised the film.
The print of the film was found in England and purchased by a collector from Belgrade, Mr. Jovanovich-Marambo, and from the first year of founding of Yugoslavian kinoteka (1949) is in its collection, but the original material was completed only a couple of years ago and it is now the first time that the complete and original print is made (in the laboratory of Bologna).
