Film Notes
“To understand how even dead material can become a filmic element it is not necessary to think of Man Ray or Léger. Seeber elevated the production of corporate films into a genre of its own. It is a particular pleasure – and some surprise – to ascertain that Holland, that is Polygoon, has certainly not made a bad name for itself with Handelsbladsfilm. Sure, the images are not brilliant nor perfect like those of Kipho-film, and there are traces of recent developments abroad, but the shots are composition well framed, varied and underline the form of the machines, and the rhythm is rapid and convincing. Despite its defects, the film represents a positive result, by no means insignificant, and until today never seen in Holland. It is at least ten times more cinematic than Norma Talmadge, after she appeared on the screen as a honeycomb laden with honey in La Traviata. (Henrik Scholte, Filmliga, n. 5, February 1930)
