Film Notes
There’s a bit of everything in this Soviet opera: opéra-comique, war film, romantic comedy…This last ingredient being the weakest. The most interesting aspect of this film, rather surprisingly, is the portrayal of daily life in the Urss during the war, when the whole nation was fighting: men, women, soldiers and civilians, all striving made by the same purpose. At six o’clock, after the victory: this is the appointment for many lovers separated by the war; our heroes will find one another. This film also provides further proof of the fact that the pace of soviet films was speeding up (as in The District Secretary [Sekretar’ rajkoma, Ivan Pyr’ev, 1942]); certain sections, with an American style of editing, are very successful.
