Film Notes

The first part is set in ancient Egypt, described very effectively in its forms and typical motifs. Kortner (the Pharaoh) has taken something from Wegener, but he also has many unique traits. Sadjah Gezza endows Nouri with great beauty and temperament. Conrad Veidt plays Satan in each episode. However, this is not a true Mephistopheles, he is neither cold nor rational. He is a sentimental devil – evil, but pained by his own wickedness.
